Niels Brock Innovation Academy
Communication plays a central role in change and innovation processes, from triggering and diffusion of new ideas, over implementation and routinization to the establishment of an innovative culture. In this process, communication is a means by which stakeholders describe, persuade, define, instruct, support, resist, and evaluate a new product and/or practice – which calls attention to the importance of sensemaking in the social interactions surrounding innovations. A lot could be said about the meaning and importance of communication in innovation and the reciprocal relationship between the two. As these processes also lies within StormConnect’s area of expertise, a future article will be devoted to this in order to illuminate a variety of aspects within this topic.
Niels Brock has a vision to be the most innovative business college in the country – hence, they have established the Innovation Academy, which you can read more about (in Danish) here.
The last part of the education programme is the Innovation Cup – the final at Christiansborg Palace, for the teams that have distinguished themselves in earlier competitions. I had the privelege to participate as innovation judge next to amongst others the man behind the world famous liqourice brand, Johan Bülow, and the serial entrepreneur Mads Peter Veiby, founder and earlier CEO at the cell phone company M! and now successful head of the gaming platform spilnu.dk. The day started with initial pitches from eache of the 32 finalist teams, after which the judges teamed up and mingled with the participating groups, saw their exhibitions and products and asked questions. On basis of this session, eigth teams were picked out for in-depth questioning from the jury, after which the winner was proclaimed – and awarded with an inspirational trip to the entrepreneurial area of Southern Califonia.
You can see a short movie from the event at Christiansborg Palace below – with me, diligently taking notes, after 37 seconds.
